Ranking high in the search engines especially Google is a tough ballgame. Search engines look at the following factors in ranking websites, though in varying degrees of importance:
- Age = an older site stand a higher chance of getting better rankings than newer sites because they are more established (especially if considered an authority in the field) and a lot more incoming links
- Quality and Uniqueness of the Content = sites rank well if they have content that users consider relevant and original, not rehashed or using content used by hundred other websites (e.g. articles in article submission directories)
- Keyword density = number of times the keyword appears on the site. This also includes having the keywords in important places such as the title, metatags, even H1s and H2s. Google places less importance on this, but it still plays some role
- How it fares in the results = when it comes up in the search engines, are people clicking on it or not. If not, search engines consider the site to be not relevant to the keyword. Also, how long does the user stay on the site; if they hit the back button immediately, then the site may not be relevant to the search term
- Site structure = on-page factors to sitemaps
- Backlinks = who are linking to the site and what are their quality (the more authoritative the site linking to your site, the better).
If you are going to read only one piece on search engine optimization, I suggest you read Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld.com's "Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone: 26 steps to 15k a day." http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htm

find a unique name for yourself google the name before you use it. (i use "disco-Legend-Zeke")
use that name in your websites, especially the title and contents meta. "Disco legend Zeke presents [subject of page]
Go to news article and blogs that relate somehow to the pages you are promoting and post meaningful replies. Be sure to always use the same unique name.
Google will see all these appearances of your special name, and because it is also in the title of your web pages, you will become authoratative.
how this works is impossible to understand, because noone actually understands google.
one more little example. i have many appearances of "disco legend zeke" on the web.
I made a gallery of paris hilton pictures, and then i googled news:paris hilton and found several blogs with replies available. I posted to several.
So now a search for: zeke paris hilton pushes THAT blog to number one, and there is a link to my site there.
Probably not the perfect example, but i have found time spent writing in other peoples websites can boost your googleosity a lot.
As far as writing for google. forget it... just write your site to make it easy for a visitor to understand what you are doing. Don't forget ALT texy and long descriptions for your photos.
Make links between pages clear and descriptive.

if you get traffic to your site, search engines will index your webiste, and also it will take your keywords and give importance to your keyword. so traffic is the most important thing in internet,
there are two things:
1) one is traffic
1) second is quality traffic
am talking about a website which has a 500 arround alexa traffic rank, and about 6/10 google's page rank.
get a free back link from this site, get a lot of free traffic, in this site you get free credits, and with that you get free traffic.
everything is free, http://www.trafficswarm.com/go.cgi?53747...
just get some easy traffic, also first 50 credits will activate you account, and then you will get your 100 free credits, then on you get free credits, with that you get free traffic.
Source(s):
get a disclaimer, privacy policy, terms and conditions, site maps, etc, these helps rankings,
also http://www.harmu.com for paid quality traffic, advertise on time basis, not on cost of clicks,

Specifically for google, you need tons of relevant one way backlinks to your pages.
Backlinks must have your keywords in it and your keywords must be very competitive for your content.
Fresh, unique content will make the rest.
Websites stuffed with ads, and affiliate content wont rank high anyway
Good look.
