Have you done something nice for someone, maybe anonymously, when they needed a hand? Like maybe buying their groceries, or treating them to dinner when they were down, etc.
How have you made a difference in someone's life?

Do you think God gives us "brownie points" for doing something nice for others?
:~0
In my opinion, God does see this, and loves us for it, BUT that is not why we do it! Does it make us feel good to do something for someone else?

Maybe I shouldn't use the word "brag"...I meant it lightly...but the emphasis of the question, is to talk about something good you may have done, just for the sake of showing that as humans, we care about others...

I'd like to think I make a difference in other peoples lives, as I know many others make a difference in mine on an almost daily basis. I am sure God likes when we do good for others, too. We do it because it gives us the 'warm fuzzies'.

My 'thing' I do most regularly is try to cheer people up when life gets them down. After personally experiencing a bad divorce, I have come to realize how much kind words & encourgement can do to help someone in a tough situation. Empathy is good for the soul.

No. Never.

Let others "honk your horn" and you will appear to be so much better a person. You will be rewarded for your gifts, but your greatest gift is the selfless act of helping another. That means not repeating what you did for one person or family to a third party.

Yes, God knows you did it, you know you did it and the person or people you helped know you did it. But God can also see into your heart and knows if you did it because you really wanted to help someone in need or if you only wanted to bring recognition to yourself. Bringing recognition to yourself from your fellow neighbors or friends is an act of vanity. That's not a good thing. It's not a pure thought.

To tell other people about it sounds like you are trying to make yourself sound like a better person - to yourself. Keep it to yourself. If there are any praises to be sung, let the person or people you helped be the ones to praise you.

Why? Even people with nothing have something in common with the wealthiest people - their pride. Don't shatter it. That's how rumors start flying and the story gets bent way out of proportion. You have also damaged your own security by spreading your act around. The "wrong" people might get the idea you have enough wealth to spread around - hence become a target of robbery or theft.

What you say to one person never stops with that one person. You have no control over who else will hear about your single act of kindness. If you read the newspaper or listen to news radio, you know there are a whole lot of evil in the world and what better target than someone who has enough to aid others?

Just my 2 cents.

But if you "brag", then you undermine why you did it
