Join a sports league. invite a coworker to join you for a happy hour drink, do volunteer work (for your school district, church, or community). It's not easy. Good luck!

Be yourself, Go out, Start conversations with people, When ever me and my husband go out ( for example a concert or movie ) while waiting in line we talk to the people in front of us or behind us, Ask them if they think the show will be good, how long they have know about it, thing like that. I meet my best friend waiting in line for a 3 door down concert and it all started with me asking her if she was excited about the show!!! We have been friends for 4 years now. Also Talk to coworkers about other thing then work, maybe that would spark a friendship with someone.

You should be nice and really well behaved, specially with someone
younger than you. You should also try to change yourslef the way the friend you want is. But if the friend has a character that you would not like to have, simply do not change. The one who accepts you as you are is you true friend.

Also, you could try doing something for the community, like joining the school board, or joining a political party campaign.
