I'm American and no, I couldn't tell you the history of every culture in the world and I'm pretty sure you can't either. Don't be so stereotypical.

.....Maybe it's because we're the best and you can't compare

Why should we know about other countries' histories? I don't, nor will I ever, live in any country other than the US.

Who is our 12th president?
What was the Boston Tea Party all about?
When and why did the French give us the Statue of Liberty?
During what time frame did the great depression occur?

I seriously doubt you can answer one of those without doing research online. And who didn't learn WHOSE history? Why are you so ignorant when it comes to American history?

Your question says that every single American is ignorant about world history and world affairs. Every single one. That sounds pretty ignorant (not to mention stereotyping) to me.

Hey, did you ever try to watch Fox news? It's the favourite news programme. If you listen closely you can hear your little grey cells bubbling and bursting as they are frazzled away.
Other American news channels are also very parochial. Who cares about the rest of the world, unless we want their oil or send our soldiers there for other reasons? Europe seems not even to be on their maps.
And then most people think they are well-informed because they watch news every day....

Because they don´t read enough. BTW, folks around the world are no better, I know because I´ve been around some. Very few people read history anymore. Obviously, this is the short answer, there are other factors, but this appears to be the main one.
