Linear feet of what? If you are using a product that is sold by the linear foot, it will have a "standard" width. You'll want to divide that width into on of the dimensions of the room, for the number of "strips" or whatever, then multiply that times the other dimension. That' just the simple way if the room is a rectangle. Obviously, it can be more complicated.

Pretty vague Q,,,no real offense.
Lenght times width is sq. ft. Linear feet? Are you installing planks/laminate/tile/carpet/molding???
Example: The room is 10 x 12. You want laminate planks to run the 12 ft length. The planks are 6 inches wide. That equates to an approximate measurement of needing 20 planks wide in the 10 ft, that cover the 12 ft length,,,even staggered. Allow for space at all sides.

If your buying carpet that's on a roll that's 12 feet wide, and your room is 12feet by 39 feet you would need 39 lineal feet off of that roll. Lineal feet would be the length of a object , so a 25foot tape measure would be 25 lineal feet long. Another needed measurement for measuring rooms would be square feet. To get square feet you take 12feet and multiply it by 39feet this gives you square feet of the room . when buying flooring or paint the package will usually tell you how much square feet the can of paint or box of tile will cover.

assuming you are laying a wood or laminate floor, you need to know the width of the boards you are laying. then measure the length of the room and times it by the width of the room to get the square footage. most flooring is sold in packages that list the coverage on the label. hint: buy more than you think you will need. If the package isn't opened the store will take it back.

That's a pretty vague question.linear footage is running length.
If you want the area of the room multiply the length by the width.
If you want volume its the length times the width by the height.but you dont need the volume..
If you want the perimeter you multiply 2 times the length plus 2 times the width
