I have been to my doctor and he told me when I will be ovulating and when I have to try to get pregnant. My husband is 40 and has a son out of his previous marriage. We have been trying for three year without any luck. Sometimes my periods are late and then I think I might be pregnant but without any luck. We do not have the amount of money to pay for tests and all that and need another few suggestions like if there are anything my husband can take to make his spermcount more as well as something for me.

You are already aware that to get pregnant you must have sex on a day that your eggs are being released.

After the 3rd day from the day that menses started put a thermometer into your mouth and check your body temperature every morning before you start turning in bed. The best time is at about 4 a.m. Maintain a chart. You will find that on one day the body temperature drops from 1/2 degree to one degree. This is the day that your eggs are being released. If you want to get pregnant this is the day that you must have sex. Tell your husband to ejaculate on his inward thrust so that the sperms will shoot deep inside.

After having sex you must stay in bed for about 30 mins with your knees bent up with a pillow under your buttocks so that the sperms will not pour out - to enable them to travel up.

Get your husband to save his sperms in the testacles for at least 3 days before sex to enable them to mature well to do their job.

Just b/c he has a son does not mean that the problem does not originate with him, alot can happen to a man's sperm count in the span of three years. If either of you are smokers I would suggest that you quit, I know that smoking lowers spem count. I finally got pregnant on my 4th ivf try, the only thing I did different was not smoke 3 months prior to the transfer of the embryos to my uterous (maybe they were able to implant b/c they were not swimming around in all that nicotine.

You said that you do not have enough money for all those test. Do you have insurance?? Because if you do many infertility treatments are covered, and some that would not be are anyway if they are related to a non-pregnancy issue. For example I have severe endometriosis. If my only reason for having my operation to remove the scar tissue was to have a baby then No, ins. would not have paid, but endo is also very painful and causes irregular periods and terrible abdominal and back pain, thus the procedures were covered under insurance.

Good luck, I had triplet girl after 12 years of trying to conceive

Don't you have medical insurance? If you don't, and don't have the money for to pay for tests, how do you expect to pay for the expenses of a baby. My hospital bill for the delivery of my daughter was $20,000. I have insurance that covered most of it. I'm not trying to get down on you, I don't think people have to be rich to have babies, but they should be able to provide medical care for them.

Also, I would find a new OB. Do they know for sure that you are ovulating? Have you been charting your daily basil body temperature or used ovulation kits? If your cycles aren't regular (you mentioned sometimes your periods are late), then maybe you aren't ovulating at the same time each month or every month. If haven't done either of the above and don't know if/when you are ovulating for sure try either charting your bbt (you can get more info on this at fertilityfriend.com - you can chart your temps for free and the thermometer runs about $10 at Walmart/most drug stores), or you can buy an ovulation kit ($20 for about 7 tests - Clear Blue Easy at Target).

If you find you aren't ovulating regularly, there are medications, such as Clomid, that will help you ovulate. My insurance doesn't cover infertility treatments or meds, so I buy the Clomid at Costco. You don't need a membership to get prescriptions filled there. Also, you only take it for 5 days and there are generic versions of it, so it doesn't cost that much for it. I pay about $15.

Also, we had my husband's spermcount checked. It wasn't covered by insurance, so it cost us about $50. I think it's worth getting him checked too.

Check for womens health centers in your area. They may provide low cost testing and fertility treatments. Not all the tests are expensive. My OB ran some routine blood tests to check for things like hormone imbalances, which were covered by insurance.

I've also read a lot about this book "Taking Charge of Your Infertility" by Toni Weschler. I haven't read it yet, but it has wonderful reviews. You can purchase it on Amazon.com for as low as $4.

Best of luck to you.

Have your hubby cut down on caffeine if he consumes it. Also, since your ovulation seems abnormal, try having sex every other day for a month or so. If that doesn't work, you could buy an ovulation preditor. The kind I got was only $20 and reusable. This sounds weird, but you take a saliva sample (from the woman), let it dry on the test tube, then look at it under magnification. Dots indicate that you are not ovulating, a fern-like crystally pattern shows that you are ovulating. Try a pharmacy to find one. Good luck.

I understand about the money issue
and just because your husband has a son in the past that doesn't mean it is not his sperm count (it can happen)
but to make sure that you their is no problem both of you need to be tested
but before you do I will suggest that you start trying maybe 2days after your period that way you won't miss any opportunity
Good Luck

If you have been trying for more than a year...it is time to see a specialist. Specialists for this are called Reproductive Endocrinologists. They are your best bet in finding out why you are not getting pregnant.

Come see me. You will be pregnant in two days. Lol. Mistake number one = marrying a geezer. Mistake number two = waiting this out for three years with no external help.

well maybe you do not have the hormones needed for pregnancy. You should go to the doctor and see what he can perscribe. If he has a son already then I'm sure it has nothing to do with him. But you should go see your doctor about that one sweetie.
