The "pops" (or "Pope" as we call him here in the western world,) was simply quoting an Constantine emperor from the 1400s. He was not meaning to imply that "Islam" or the Prophet was bad, simply trying to speak against religious intolerance.

That his remarks were so mis-understood is simply further evidence that the Catholic Church made an unbelievably serious mistake when they picked a ridged idiot like "Ratso" Ratzinger to succeed a man like Karol Wojtyla.

Revealed religions that claim exclusive truth -- and that includes Cathocism, most Protestants, all of Islam and no Jews, Buddhists, etc. -- have a tendency to insult and deride other faiths as "false" and their prophets as "false prophets".

Islam, even more than these other faiths, takes an aggressive stance, insisting on the right to kill apostates, blasphemers, etc. They also want multiculturalism in Europe and America (until they can manage to convert them all by argument or jihad) but NOT in their own lands.

Such assymetrism -- and denial of human rights to others -- is a non-starter.

The Pope has the right to give his opinion. I have the right to give mine. The Pope isn't killing anybody --- in this century. The Muslims are, and those who aren't doing it themselves are mostly supportive of those -- Hamas, Hezbollah -- who do.

No,he wasn't ...I'm pretty sure he did not want to offend anybody...the Pope quoted a 14th Century Christian emperor who said Muhammad had brought the world only "evil and inhuman" things...He didn't chose very well his quotes...but he should apologize...
