In one state, a teenager (say she's fourteen or fifteen) must have a parent's consent before having an abortion. She's too scared to tell her parents she's had sex, gotten pregnant, whatever, so she goes with her friends to the next state and has the abortion there. Everything is fine, but she dies later from complications out of anyone's control. Now the parents are mad about the laws. Why does no one address the fact that she couldn't go to her parents? Isn't that the problem, that her relationship with her parents was not prepared to tell them about pregnancy?

This IS a reality. I was watching that new show, 30 Days, and a lady who worked for PP went to a center for unwed moms for thirty days. They interviewed a family who lost their only daughter to an abortion performed in the next state. The parents were trying to change their state laws so she could've had an abortion without their consent.

Well, first of all, it should NOT be done without parents consent. I mean, if the gal is bloody 14 years old and having sex....then the parents have a right to know. She lives in that house.

LEGALLY people are not adults until they reach 18 years old. That is for anything and everything...ecept abortion? Which I think is stupid, the parents have a right to know.

First off----I love my parents and am very close to them, but if I got pregnant at 14 I would of never told them. If abortion was an option I would of chosen it also. Every woman young and old has a right to do what they need to do. If that means have an abortion then so be it. Why would we want something made illegal when it's there to help people. I mean the trauma of a 14 year old girl going through the entire pregnancy during school and then either giving the kid up for adoption or keeping it would be life long. Teenagers don't need to go though that. Right she should of not had sex to begin with but she did. She should have a choice of how to fix her mistake. Her state should of never made it illegal for a minor to get an abortion. Planned parenthood or other companies are made to support the wooman and her choices. at a low cost and effective manner. let's keep it that way!

That is so sad but it happens every day. Parents need to make sure that communication line between them and their kids STAY OPEN all the time. Some times I know that it is VERY HARD to because I have 2 boys. My oldest son 15 has a 14yr. old girlfriend and her mother is bi-polor. Her life most of the time is a living **** so she calls me serval times a week crying. I have prayed that God will give her the strength to get through this and help her mother to stop what she is doing to her. She is being tortured by girls at school also. How much more can some of these kids take it is simply uncall for. Please people pray for our young and stop harrashing them. No this young lady is not pregnant, that God.

not really. The doctor is supposed to contact the parents about the abortion regardless of state. The parents are supposed to know about it 48 hours before the surgery. I personally would sue the doctors for not giving the best care they could. Here's a hint for u sweetheart. roughly 96% of teens don't tell their parents alot of things cuzz of the reaction they may get. Most parents would ground their child for atleaste 1 week for backtalking and thats mild... And most parents talk about the fact that they would kill their child if they got pregnant so they don't tell them.

Well first of all, a teenager has little control over how F-d up her parents are.

second: During the 60's this happened all the time and was the major reason abortion was legalized. Because women wanted control over their own bodies and would go to any extreme to exercise that control. Now, you don't hear about that ugly truth anymore.

I TELL ALL PEOPLE NOW: FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO CONTROL YOUR BODY AND THROW THE REPUBLICANS OUT OF OFFICE !!!!

Some parents don't see it the way you do. They don't think of it as a poor relationship. Some kids are afraid of what their parents are going to do if they found out that they where or are doing things that moms and dads don't like.

My daughters and I have had the sex, period, pregnancy, birth control, boy's lies to get in your pants.....talk. They absolutely know without a doubt that they can come to me and not get in any trouble. I told them to tell me the 1st time they have sex so we can set doctors appt. to get them on pill. They are 10 and 11. My friend got mad at me for having that talk at their age,but it's gotta happen. It's your job to do it before their "know nothing" friends do.

You will find people who're so filled with rage and hate that they prefer the girl go right ahead and die. Further, they hope that she suffers for hours and hours in exquisite agony as she dies. These are the people for whom God is not a loving, understanding and forgiving Diety but a malignant, hate-twisted monster! Keep your weapons handy when in the presence of this type of "christian"!

You are correct, the problem began at home with her not being able to talk to her parents.
The abortion was what brought the problem out in the open.
