I'm 20, far from ugly, kind, don't treat people like sh*t unlike many of my attractive friends and quite shy myself - so why can't some men (around my age) look me in the eye? It makes me feel awful and only perpetuates my shyness.

Maybe cos you are so shy they can't tell how you feel and it makes their confidence a little hard to contain...

It seems like the guys your talking to of your own age group are very shy themselves, eyes are the window to the soul and you can learn an awful lot from them, you could either go on line and find some body language pages or buy a good book about body language, they are a great source of information and really help with shyness too, maybe because you a lovely person and kind you could start a conversation off with one of these guys by saying something like isn't shyness a strange thing, bet they look you in the eye then by pretending not to be, good luck.

Awe, don't be shy babes :) I have the same problem sometimes, and people tell me I'm well above average in looks. It's a problem on their side. Some men are too shy to look an attractive woman in the eyes and some men are too shy to look any person in the eyes, man or woman. Please don't take it as sign of rejection. Just keep on doing what you are. You sound like a really nice person :)

As a guy (who was shy at that age) it's probably because you are VERY attractive and they find it a bit hard to cope. The girls who treat them like poo are just coming down to their emotional level, which makes them feel more comfortable. Just relax and wait for someone confident enough to talk to you properly and respect you enough to look you in the eyes.

My sister had this problem...in fact she loves talking to me since i always give loads of eye contact.
What i would suggest is that you should start realizing that your shyness also leads these guys to feel as though they shouldn't give you eye contact, since they get the feeling that you are uncomfortable with it.
Try to give as much eye contact as possible from now on and trust me...guys wont look away...actually its the best way to flirt! Also you'll realize if they are interested right away...but remember you have nothing to prove...be confident in yourself and don't think about what peoples opinion about you will be!

I've found that when people don't make eye contact it is because THEY feel insecure and possibly intimidated by the person they are avoiding the eye contact with. Have you ever considered that they may feel nervous around you? That's a good thing you know!

Due to their own shyness/ nervousness, probably... I have never been able to look people in the eye naturally, and really have to make myself do it..... the overwhelming likelihood is it's not you that's the problem....

I dont look some women in the eye when i fancy them and im afraid of 'giving myself away'. Maybe thats the reason?

Sometimes it is hard to look someone right in the eyes. I find myself a little self-concious too.

Do you think you are the only shy person in the world? You are somewhat conceited though. Many men are also shy and are that way around many people. Maybe it's your personality.
