The closet walls have now dried. Thus far, I've put a fan in the doorway to try and ventilate, but I really want to rid the closet completely from the odor, not mask or cover it up. I'm also afraid clothes etc, may absorb the smell. Can anyone give me some good sound help to remove the odor?

You are going to have to put a sealer on it, covering ceiling, woodwork and walls, and then repaint it completely, ceiling, walls, and any woodwork. Dulux, which encompasses several excellent paint brands, has a sealer for that purpose. I would tell you to get a flat oil based sealer, but the store would argue with me. I am an old paint man.

The best sealer in my estimation is shellac which you would probably have to get at ACE hardware. The problem with painting a closet with shellac is that the room is small, the fumes are excessive, the fumes are explosive, and the surface is hard when finished and latex does not like hard glossy finishes to go over.

Since I never use the most popular primer used for this purpose, I can't even tell you the name of it. It stinks worse than spoiled paint.

I think, therefore, that you would be better off with the best quality of the Dulux product and go over it with any latex paint of the color you like.

The primer I don't like is KILZ

You could have used a latex paint (water centered) over an oil centered paint. The historical "water and oil do not combine" axiom jewelry real right here. Wait till it's thoroughly dry, sand the partitions, prep the outside a little bit bigger, top and paint once more. Talk with the men and women within the paint dept at a dwelling advantage retailer simply to make certain.

Well you can try bleach spray, but the problem was applying degraded paint in the first place. The odor from souring/spoiling may also include mold.

I'd spray the walls, then apply heavy coats of KILZ, then repaint with new, fresh color.

That said,,, I've applied thousands of gallons of paint and know one thing for certain. The customer is always right,,,even when they aren't.
