Hey all. I'm currently pregnant, and my doctor told me it was okay to take regular Sudafed. I'm taking the lowest miligram available, also in non-drowsy, and it's helped a lot. However, it says on the back of the box that if it makes you sleepless, you should call your doctor. Why is that? I had a hard time sleeping last night.

but if all it does is make you restless, and that's not a big deal, why does it say to call your doctor??? Is there a more serious thing that can happen that sleeplessness would be a first sign of?

Sudafed is like an upper. it is safe for your baby, but Sudafed will make you edgy, and sometimes nervous.

Try taking it earlier in the day. Degongestant nasal sprays (use sparingly as possible!) might be a good substitute at night IF your doctor says it is OK. For sleeplessness or insomnia, you might enquire on this QA site about homeopathic remedies for insomnia and/or congestion. These are often effective and should carry little risk to the baby, but only a certified homeopath can accurately inform you on that.
Good luck!

Sudafed has ephedra in it. I can take 2 and my heart beats extremely fast. I don't think it will hurt the baby at all, but it might cause your blood pressure to increase and make you uncomfortable. It depends totally on your system. I wouldn't take it just before bedtime. :)
