I think that is true to an extent.

The internet - especially MySpace - has provided new bands to pitch straight to the public without the intervention of a business brain who may try to stifle their creativity. Look at the recent rise and rise of The Arctic Monkeys.

However, we still have shows like X-Factor, which in some ways do find entertaining personalities; but at what cost to music? Has anyone recently been wowed by hits from Michelle McManus or Steve Brockstein or Gareth Gates etc.

I think poop music is in quite a healthy state at the moment, better than it was a few years ago anyway. Lilly Allen is a good pop star, as are The Scissor Sisters. Actually, I think Girls Aloud and Sugarbabes make good pop records, better than turgid ballads by Boyzone and Westlife anyway.

No. And certainly not the type of "musician" who would be considered a "pop star". However, if you move away from MTV and Saturday morning TV, there are a lot of original artists out there.

The music industry is dying.

People are choosing what music they want to listen instead of following the charts.

So now music is now returning to the art form it always was.

Now bands can do what they want without having to keep their companies happy.

No, they will always be in competition with each other. When one gets a range rover, the other has to top it. When one gets a fake tan, the other wants to be even more orange...like a domino effect.

They feed off this stuff. I don't think they know how to be individuals really.
