Bounty hunters are people who make their living by catching criminals who are on the run or who has a warrant on them. For example , if you go after Bin laden for the reward on his head , you will become a bounty hunter.

after arrest, someone is released "on bail" paid to the court on the offender's behalf, usually with some form of "security" in case of default, or the defendant's disappearance.

If the defendant doesn't appear in Court at the hearing date, the agency that paid the Bail will usually send a "Bounty hunter" to get the defendant back in front of court, so that they can get their bail money back from the court.

Originally it was a "head hunter's fee" paid by the State Government, or Sherrif's office to anyone who could capture eg: "Dead or Alive" a criminal wanted by the law. A "bounty" would be offered as a "price on his head" for the successful capture of the criminal.
