Well, first off you need to think of what genre you wish to read. Mystery, Shounen (action), Shoujo (romance), ect... Then type in a search of "Manga -insert genre here" on google. You can get alot of interesting idea's.

Or go here http://www.discountanimedvd.com/product_list_book.asp?sect=6 and scroll down to check out the genres.

Personally, I reccomend Fruits Basket, Saiyuki and Yu-Gi-Oh! due to the non-butchered-ness of it all. :3 You can see what really happens when (Yu-Gi-Oh!) it's not put in the words of an 8 year old child on a sugar high.

Alot of Japanese comics, or Manga, is actually very different from the anime shows, read as cartoons to most non-obsessed people. Usually the manga has more information while the anime is cut short in certian areas due to time limits. Same happens when most books are made into movies, really (IE: Harry Potter).

Such is the fact in Ouran High School (Koukou) Host Club, Full Metal Alchemist, Graviation, Fruits Basket, Yu-Gi-Oh! (as stated above), Yu-Yu Hakusho, and a variety of others.

Though, there are sometimes when the anime gives out more than the manga does -- which has occured in the Digimon series, sad to say.

All in all, you really just need to think about what you like and try to find something similar in the manga (and anime) world. But keep in mind that you should never be afraid to explore other genres, you never know what could really catch your interest. :3

Good reading and watching!

I love playing modern Japanese mahjong (the real 4 player game related to Gin Rummy/Poker, not stupid computer solitaire), if it were EVER translated to English I would recommend:

Legend of Akagi
Tetsuya
Gyuwanburaa Jiko Chuushin Ha

These 3 are Japanese mahjong manga revolving the lives of fictitious characters and the types of hands and incidents they encounter etc. They are mildly educational as well. I suspect 2 of them have been created into condensed anime.

Keep in mind that Japanese mahjong is among the top 3 board games in Japan (along with Go and Shogi), and there are tons of Japanese mahjong games available for any video game system, including PS2 and Nintendo DS. Personally I prefer Japanese mahjong to Go, because my style of thinking isn't abstract (I suck at Chess).

Check out the following websites for rules:

Old school manga but a good one:

"Lone Wolf and Cub" - great action story that really delves into not only the Samurai but also the history and culture of the Edo Period (1603-1867).

Kazuo Koike goes into great detail on smaller overlooked aspects of the culture and tradition of this time period. He has a great attention to detail. The art work is cinematic.

they're no longer lettters, they're words. Names won't be able to quite be translated proper - in chinese we do it through sound, so Hannah will be 'Han na' for this reason 2 characters. even if, many characters have the pronunciation of 'han' and 'na' so that's as a lot as use to pick on which of them to apply. on line translators do no longer have this means, especially with names, so ask on the following instead. that's truly a lot less complicated with eastern because Western names are written in Katakana yet i imagine a human translator is maximum proper for any translation.

I recommend "Hikaru no Go". "Go" is the oldest and the most difficult board game in the world. It's much harder but much more interesting than chess.

Bill Gates and Einstein like to play "Go" very much. I also like it.

This manga is very interesting although you may not know how to play "Go". I hope you get to like "Go" after reading it.
