Yes, I am subject to it whenever some idiot decides that showing numerous photo slides would be a good idea. Also, I do a budget projection for my house and I can project several stupid responses to this question.

Projection is a Freudian defense mechanism whereby a person who feels a certain way, holds a certain opinion, etc. actually "projects" that feeling/opinion on to someone else and treats them as if THEY are the one who has the feeling or opinion. I'm sure I have been subject to it, but can't cite an example. It is quite common -- one of the most common is when someone "accuses" someone else of being gay. Frequently, the accuser has had some homosexual thoughts or fantasies that made them uneasy, so they dispel some of the unease by accusing someone else.

I see it as when someone "projects" their ideal image or expectations onto someone else in the belief or hope that they can be the "ideal" person to fulfill the needs of this person.
A classic example in my case is when I married a man who insisted that I was a "perfect" woman, without flaws, who he could not live without, who could make his life totally happy and complete.
So he would "project" onto me his mental image of the "perfect" woman/wife and onle "see" me in that light. A bit like literally taking a movie projector with the image of Garbo, and aiming the lighted picture onto the face of another person - so that they would "look" like Garbo to the viewer.
The really big problem with this, is that it is hard work for the person doing the projecting, as they must be continually deluding themselves, and whenever they "forget" to, they see the "real" person instead of the image/mask, and fall out of love, or usually feel "cheated" by the other person.
It is very interesting that the other person is usually accused of tricking the person doing the actual projecting.... "you are not really the person you pretended to be to me".... etc etc.
