Yes, but not exactly a direct cap on wages.
I think that a system should be put in place so that limits are put on how much a team spends on players' wages. That sum of money would have to support all of their players. For instance, if the cap is £1m a week, then the team has an option of spending £200k on 2 superstar players and be left with £800k for the remaining players. The question that would have to be answered then would be whether the £800k would be enough to buy decent enough players to support the superstars, or whether it would be wiser to spend less on the superstars and give more towards the lesser players so that the whole team improves.
This ensures that, while the superstars can still command higher wages, individual teams would have to weigh seriously their options as to how much they spend on superstars and how much they spend on developing other players.
It would also bring into proportion of the importance of teamwork and development, not just individual flair players.

Every club should have it's own wage cap. The amount of money being thrown around in the game nowadays is ridiculous compared to even ten years ago. Every move players make now seems to be motivated by money and wages, whether they're joining a new club or signing a new contact. This kind of money sucks the passion outta players who are getting a guaranteed 80 grand whether they play well or not and there's no concept of loyalty and ambition left at clubs, now a mid-table club is seen asa stepping stone to big money rather than an investment of good faith from new players, and everyone seems to have their price so far as transfers go..
Cap those wages to no more than 40 grand a week. When i say that out loud, £40,000 a week, it still sounds absolutley daft.

I don't think capping the players wages is the answer. Instead people should boycott going to matches where ticket prices are extortionate and also stop buying football shirts until they lower the price. Premiership players are only paid according to how many shirts they are likely to sell around the world and how many people will come to see them play. If people were to stop doing that, clubs would be forced to reduce the players wages as they would not have the income to support such high figures.
Good in theory I guess...

I agree 100% players are on to much but if there wages are capped the money will just line someone elses pocket. The prices of tickets are just going to keep going up and up, with all the sky deals and advertising money there, the only way it could be done is if the players money was capped the additional money should go to the clubs to spend on either players or the facilities for the fans.

Yes. Thought Ashley Cole's comment on not getting an extra £5K a week from Arsenal was beautiful.
He said that his agent gave him the news whilst he was driving and he nearly swerved off the road at Arsenal's greed!!!
The BBC's website 'commentator' - Robbo had an excellent reply:
"Two things: 1) Don't use your mobile phone when you're driving, Ashley. How daft can you be to admit that in public?
2) That means that one decision cost you £260,000 a year - out of what?
I think he would have been forced to struggle along on £2.6m.
Exactly. To me he's the epitomy of what is wrong with football in this country. To most of us five grand a year would be a good start.
Shut up lad, just get on with playing football - which you're not that good at because I saw you playing for Chelsea in the Champions League and you were cack."

I think there should be a cap on wages, but a bonus system for how well the team did over the season.
Players should also be able to earn extra through sponsorship and advertising.

yeh theres not really an answer to this the whole thing is fuked upwhen youve got chelsea making a loss of 60mil on players in two years and it was cheaper than that to buy aston villa u gotter think somethings wrong ,you couldnt cap wages because of agents players making there own rules who should be glad there in the position there in like greedy ashly cole and if clubs wont a player they seem to do anything to get them,to many factors involved.

Some time ago I suggested that if our team was docked for losing a game it might sharpen up their game, since I have known my local team they have been regulated once & although they were promoted as well, back to the same division they have yet to be above the division they are in ,possibly because they feel comfortable, or is it because they pass their players on to other teams I honestly do not think in my lifetime they will get promoted? What`s more they didn`t in my parents lifetime either.
