refused to sign up to the Kyoto agreement. Is to deflect the issues of Iraq or is it because of the mid term elections. Either way it seems like a PR stunt by the American Government.

Guys thank you for putting me straight on a few things. The situation is really getting serious, but how do we get countries like China and India to reduce pollution levels. I fear it will be too little too late what ever they do.. If anything. Yes! Global warming is not a new thing but since the Industrial Revolution the pollution has increased and global warming is gathering pace faster than anyone could every have imagined or anticipated. I hope that Al Gore is able to add some clout to his campaign..but how. This issue concerns us all and is bigger than any world power alone can put right it has to be a combined effort from us all.
I cannot choose a best answer, therefore I shall put it to the vote if you don't mind.
Thank you all again.
Don't forget to switch of the lights before you turn in.

The Kyoto agreement was not signed because it gave exemptions to 2/3 or the world's population, most notably India and China. The effects of such an agreement would have made it cheaper to do business in those countries, resulting in the exporting of more jobs. If more industry moves to those countries that have no pollution control, the net result would have been the production of more green house gases than we have now.
The US government has long stated they will sign that agreement if India and China are included.

Hi,
I totally agree. American "politics" is a strange kettle of fish.
Folks seeking general popularity seems to be more important than the issues at hand.
I would like to see a female President, as my wife tells me
" We would make a better Democracy"
Perhaps true enough, but as to Al Gore, well what a hypocrital load of hogwash !
Would not trust him with a spanner, if I was an American voter.
But that is just my opinion, and as a UK voter, I can say "Don't like the sound of that bloke"
As for your mention of a possible global warming situation, look at distant history. It has been going on in cycles for thousands of years Yet, as you comment, politics sometimes dictate our thinking. Enter stage left, Al Gore.
Such is the way of things, so
All the best,
Bob

I did´didnt notice a thing that Al Gore is fighting for since long.
I am not American, but I believe AG is going after a real world problem now as he always did.
If he is preparing to became a candidate for the next presidential this may be seen as a good prospect for Americans as well as for all of us who care about ambient problems.

Your wrong in thinking this is a recent thing with him. In the first Clinton presidency he published a very indepth book called The World in Balance. All environmental concerns where covered well in that book. He has always been a strong environmentalist. It just never has gotten much attention in the press.
I don't understand why you think this is a PR stunt by the US government. He and Bush certainly aren't cronies.

Did you know a volcano went off in the philippines recently and it reduced the worlds temperture by a measurable amount! I agree with the idea that 'global warming' being a polictical force rather than a reality.
The idea that humans control the worlds temperature is a massive ego trip by modern man - come on next ice age is all I can say.

I paintings with DNA which few people see, yet few might deny exists. My chum is a spiritual educator and works with some thing i won't be able to work out and particularly frankly am skeptical approximately, incredibly if i take advantage of the yardstick of people who ridicule worldwide warming!! have you ever heard of a family contributors that enable a toddler die because of the fact they did no longer have confidence in docs and wanted to scream at them via the television? i've got confidence an identical in direction of climate exchange naysayers. I paintings interior the sector of scientific examine and have confidence the scientific community universal. however the naysayers denial of evolution, DNA, quarks, and so on does not inevitably imperil the planet, our destiny AND their very own youngsters' and grandkids' destiny, as much as denial of this project threatens to. McCain isn't my determination yet neither is he a scientifically illiterate boob curiously!!!

Al Gore has been a life long environmentalist. Had he been installed as president in 2000 the US would have signed the Kyoto protocol as we should. Al Gore hates Bush for many (good) reasons.
The US is the lone hold out from signing and that will happen as soon as Bush leaves.
Check the link for a list and dateline of countries who have signed on;

It is about time that someone stood up to Bush and what they believe in. Al Gore to me has got it right and should have been President, then the US would have signed up to the Kyoto Agreement without question.
