How do we still misrepresent Indidengous societies?

I know that in Mexico, the mestizos often call the indidengous people "ignorant", just because they want to stick to their customs, belifes and culture. Its funny because I'm not even Mexican and when someone told me this I was pissed off by their misreprensentation.

Well, who is we? If you mean the mass public in the US, let´s start with Native Americans. These folks are often still thought of as:
Drunken, violent, lazy and stupid. These concepts have been around a long time and served to justify their extinction. Nowadays, people frequently subconsciously use these ideas as a way to ignore the situation among natives on reservations today. I find it curious that many people brag about having tribal blood and yet never participate in tribal events.

Indigenous societies are more than capable of misrepresenting themselves. You can not 'misrepresent' anybody on someone elses behalf. Are you sure you know what 'misrepresent' means?

By thinking we're not as vulnerable as they are and undermining their culture.

And think about it. The term "third world" is a term to separate certain people from others. Last time I checked, Earth is the third world. (Real geinus)
