once upon the crest i stood and looked out to the west
the sun was shining in my eyes an then i faced the east
i saw a beast
i started to run away but something made me stop and stay
i hears a voice say
is it you? is it you? that standeth upon my mount
yes, tis me, i answered and trembled as i watched him approach
he had seven fingers on each hand with talons hard and sharp
off, off, off of my hill he said
wretched he was with a big intruding head
but my fears were at last allayed when i realized
it was only my cousin thurman.
