What does "less good version" mean?

I saw this phrase in lyrics of the song "Call the police" by James Morrison and everywhere else online.

That sentence is "And all I see is a less-good version of a man I don't wanna be".

I don't really think that's English.
But, I would infer that it means, "not as satisfactory."
