At the beginning of the film when Pierce Brosnan steals the painting from the museum and puts it in his briefcase and shuts it, why doesn't the painting snap in half?

The painting is the same size as the briefcase when its OPEN and it has a wooden frame and is painted on a thick canvas.

Is it just me who noticed this?

One of my favourite films of all time, this one, i love it.

I cannot remember perfectly but i believe that the painting fits perfectly in the case with 2 of its dimensions when he puts it in. The case is deeper than the painting which means that there is a cavity behind it. When the case is closed the wooden frame will break/splinter but the force will push the splinters into the cavity behind it. Also the canvas is quite thick so will bend and not fold along a crease. That is how Mr Crown manages to steal the painting without snapping it in half - well the fram snaps but the canvas is what is worth the money and that is just slightly bent and will flatten out when pinned in its next frame.

I thought of this, the picture fits perfectly into the suitcase when opened, but its on a wooden frame.

I thought he took it out of the frame and rolled it before putting it in the case..
Must have been another film.

I noticed that too. It confused me. I assumed that the frame was maybe hinged.
