Actually, I think it was an insult. The other day I was talking with a co-worker who has a lot of issues in her life. She's extremely insecure - and in her 50s. I was telling her a funny story that had happened to me and she replied, "You're always so prim and proper, that really brings you down to our level!" What the hell does that mean? This woman is all about fake smiles and pretending to have interest in everyone - but I think she is a huge gossip and she only fakes interest so she can find out everything she wants to know. I'm trying my hardest to avoid her now - but I have to be polite and say hi when I do see her. Am I right to think she was insulting me?

No matter what she meant "prim and proper" are not compliments. I suggest you understand that she is projecting her own stuff onto you and it is about her rather than you. Just keep on being polite and spend more energy on co-workers who deserve your friendship. Good luck!

was tht an insult? hmmmm....i m not sure, it sounded ok to me....maybe she is hinting something but you must understand tht she is 50 and you r 26. Tell me who doesnt want to be 26? ofcourse she envy you but you shld get on wth it...you are young, successful and will be more successful in the near future, i mean your r in the win win solution here. She is the one who is frustrated with her life not you, let her say anything she wants, you just have to show your smile.
You are absolutely rite tht you must be polite and kind to her tht keeps your workplace in peace and harmony, we work so tht we make a living and create a career out of it, no matter wht tht shows tht you are a good person by nature.
Maybe it was an insult from her side, but i shldnt think much about it, however ever insult tht was she didnt say it directly bcs she couldnt, she doesnt have the guts to insult you, afterall you r kind.

In a sort of a way it's a bit cheeky but......think she was meaning she always thought of u as being above yourself but your story was funny down to earth and enjoyable that she has changed her opinion of u to " hey your really nice after all " She just never gave u a chance cos she doubted you. She now knows better !. Hope this helps..

She was not only insulting you but she was also venting some of her personal pain. She is not happy in life and she takes it out on others.

Say hi

Everyone is so different, it is not possible to know if she has issues or not, you are wise to choose to limit your interaction with her, but don't be offended because she may not be very socially skilled.
Give her a chance but protect your bounderies.

Sounds like an insult to me. At least you know how she is -- say hello and move on.
