Philippines don't have the largest Muslim population in the world. Indonesia has the largest Muslim population for your information.

When I think about Philippines, I think about the beautiful sunset of manila bay. It is really beautiful. Next is the world-class statue of Jose Rizal. Then I think about how crowded the place is.

The churches are superb, especially San Augustine Church, Santo Domingo Church, Quiapo Church with the Black Nazarene, Baclaran Church, and the century old cathedral in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.

Then I think of the lechon, yummy, the asrrozcaldo, lechon manok, leche flan, buco salad, buco pie and pan de sal.

Taal Volacano and Mayon Volcano plus the beaches. It is paradise on earth, if only the people will learn to take care of it.

The first time I ever saw the end of a rainbow was at Subic Bay.
It was hot there--when the temperature dropped to 85 degrees at night,I slept under blankets.
I always wanted to go back.

My mother's cousin was an amtrack driver during the rescue at the camp in Los Banos during WWII

When I was younger, these images came into my mind when I think of the Philippines..........

Palm trees and coconuts!
Multi-coloured and overly decorated passenger jeepneys!
The Sorbetero ice cream push cart!
Sunset in Manila Bay!
The Calesa! (horse-drawn two-wheeled carriage)
The Lecho'ng Baboy! (red-roasted pig)
Pandango sa Ilaw! (folk dance using lighted candles)
The Christmas Parol! (star-shaped Christmas lanterns)
Maidens in Ternos! (national costume for women)
The Ati-Atihan Festival! (for me-the mother of all festivals)

But, as I grew and became mature, these are the images that persist in my mind now..........

HARDCORE corrupt government officials!
Corny and Tacky Filipino Love Team Movies!
Poverty, Poverty, Poverty, Poverty!
Slum areas that beat other slum areas in the world!
Population Uncontrolled!
Americanized Filipinos and their "eeck-ccents"!
The filthy rich using poor people to become richer!
Trying hard to be Thailand!
Disappearing tropical rain forests!
A dog-eats-dog world!

But, I continue to try to see the positive side of things, anyhow.

So, I go back to the times when I was younger............
