With love in Christ.

He is not - he was quoting a Byzantine emperor from over 500 years ago and did not say these are his beliefs. However Muslims love to wallow in outrage - Danish Muslim clerics went on a Middle Eastern tour showing Mohammed cartoons worse than those printed in the newspaper to whip up more anger - so no doubt the truth is going to have a hard time getting heard in the coming days. They'll only stop burning effigies and jumping up and down in the streets when they get a grovelling apology, which I hope they don't get.

Why are you jumping to conclusions and making false assertions? What are you going to gain by this?
The Pope was arguing against the unholiness of 'holy' war, by quoting a Byzantine emperor. These were NOT his own words, as he stressed clearly at the time.
Do you think, or do you just spout off?

Questions like this one is precisely why I "Thank God" I'm an atheist. Anyway, wars are fought by one tribe against another for any number of reasons. Religion is just another excuse. But the bottom line is tribalism. (And survival of that tribe), I'm for MY TRIBE and understand why you support and depend on YOUR TRIBE. It's a matter of survival.
PS: Should the "world" live and work TOGETHER for the betterment of all? Of course. But has the "world" ever really come together for purposes other than tribes joining other tribes to fight yet another group of tribes? Nope.
That's life, always has been, always will.

Why does anyone with a brain (and who chooses to use that brain) even care what the pope says or thinks?? He is a symbolic leader of a religion that has probably caused more wars than any other ....is responsible for more ethnic cleansing and genocide than any government anywhere, and the intelligent, non-brainwashed population (and yes I am white and western) don't give a damn what he says

ok, so the pope said that the head of the muslim brotherhood calls for violence. is this not true? i remember the prime minister of Lebanon saying that the muslim community is growing in europe and the US and when it has enough people they are going to take over, through peace or through war.
he said that the only things that islam has brought to the world is violence. is this not true. all the nations that islam has conquered, it conquered through holly war.

If you would have read his entire quote you would have seen he said he was not trying to upset Islam. He said he was just quoting the emperor to show that it is wrong to cause holy wars. He was saying God (any ones god whoever that may be) doesn't want us fighting in his name!!
