I've suffered from IBS for years and the basic theory is to have a balanced diet. I wouldn't stop eating anything unless you know it makes your symptoms worse. The best and most simpliest cure is Peppermint Oil. They are natural and really do help.
Tesco's for a while did produce Peppermint and Marshmallow capsules which were great, but they do not stock them in all stores so can be difficult to get hold of.
If you are really worried speak to your local Pharmacist, Nurse or GP

Elizabeth Lipski has a great book called 'Digestive Wellness" that is a gold mine of great advice and information on IBS.
Also, try Enzymatic Therapy's Peppermint Plus pills. I have enjoyed watching many IBS sufferers get amazing relief from this simple OTC product.
Good luck and God bless!

I'm glad you asked this. I self diagnosed myself with it when my tummy got all upset and the doc ruled out something more serious. Like I just couldn't be bothered with all the tests to prove that it was nothing else. Anyhows I read a *load* on, specifically, what to eat. Ok some of this is from my reading and some's from mom, dad etc. Ok, funnily |black pepper is great for the tummy, so is mustard and cumin. Most normal things like vegetables etc are fine [neither good nor bad really and necessary for good diet]. 96% of tablets are bad so take them with a meal and after a glass of milk. Most fruit is delicate on the tummy, except harder ones like banana. Don't put fruit on top of meat as it just sits there and ferments. Milk can be hard on it especially if one's had colonic irregation [it flushes out all the little bugs that deal with lactose [the sugar in milk]]. Chilli and booze can be hard on it, and fenugreek [curry]. Generally the adage of 'meat and two veg' is true and worth listening to. Most herbs are awesome, especially camomile and valerian [not sure of spelling]. Mint and stuff like that is really great too. Coffee [especially] and tea [just a little] are bad. Try cutting out things like wheat or milk, one at a time, and keep a journal of what happens and *how you feel*,,,, that really tells you what your body likes. Oh, and ask this same ques when more English speaking nations are awake; like cos the States are still asleep and the Ozzies [all respect Oz folks] are now at 12PM.
That's about it, check back and I may remember more.

If possible get an appointment thru your doctor with a dietician.
besides the already suggested avoiding wheat etc just eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, potatoes and rice. Gluten free pasta is good too and don't forget unless you're a veggie (like me) you can have meat too!
Good luck its worth it, i feel so much better for cutting out my problem foods!

Avoid anything containing wheat, gluten and all dairy products. Probiotic drinks are helpful. Welcome to my world.
