We have an investigatory project which includes adding pine needle ash to bricks to make them more durable.Now, we are wondering if which has more adhesive property, green pine needles or brown ones? As a collector of pine sap (amber) in my humble opinion the fresh green needles contain more resin. I have also observed green needles have a subtle barbed finish which I believe are small (leafs) that open to give the needle more surface to process light.
Also the green, with a little fresh sap, tightly woven together make a wonderful smudge stick...For those into that sort of thing.

green most def, have you ever crushed either between your fingers, green are fresh of course and still moist, they leave your hands very sticky. Dry pine needles just crumble into dust, no moisture left....

green...try crushing them. brown ones are dry.
