First of all, because there are 3 of you, you can make significant savings. I'm not sure what your budget is but you can easily stay at a nice 3 or 4 * for not much.
Personally, I would recommend the Rho Hotel. It is bang in the middle of Amsterdam, 10 seconds from Dam Square yet you wouldn't even know it was there so it is quiet.
Unlike most places, there is actually a hot cooked meal choice at breakfast and the concierge facility is like that of a 5* hotel.
The rooms are nice and clean.
There are of course other options if you wish to pay a bit less money, but it depends on what else you are looking for.
There is also a very good FREE guide available at the link below.

What do you want? The Botel seems to be nice. It is in the centre and not expensive. Near the Central Train-station.
Hansje Brinker is a very cheap hostel. But more something for backpackers. No room with a view except for a blank wall. No TV, no air-co. But good rooms. in the centre
Close to the Sarphatipark is a small family hotel. Hotel Albert. Friendly, simple. It is in the Pijp, a part of the centre. Not as touristic as near the Central Station.

attempt the Amstel Botel its placed on the river just to the left of Centraal station. that's a ship thats been switched over to a motel. i take advantage of it everytime i'm going there and it is placed remarkable the place i think of you're searching for. The rooms are small as they was once cabins yet its very sparkling and run conveniently. i won't be able to propose it sufficient
