This is a crutch some people use as an excuse for their behavior. We are all individuals who know right from wrong. Saying that music has the ability to make someone break the law is like saying sunshine will make you want to surf. It is weak minded people who want to push the blame away from themselves. It is not a legal defense anywhere in the world, and it will not fly with your boss, wife, friends, etc... Our society is always looking at blaming the most inane of circumstances for a variety of social ills, but the science behind it does not validate their sentiment. This has been going around since the seventies and each time it gets flushed as utter nonsense. Review law libraries of criminals who have tried to use the music defense. They are probably still in prison. Other examples are people who blamed their childrens music for their child's suicide. The cases are thrown out of court for a reason. Sorry to be so long winded, but this excuse just boggles my mind that a lawyer would be so desperate to try it, but it still shows it's head every once in a while. Ditto video games, TV, Magazine Ads, etc....

No I grew up on rap music and have yet to go out and shoot someone. I know the difference between entertainment and reality. Its the environment and the way they are raised that determines how a child turns out.

Yes, music affects mood.
If you listen to a lot of happy and bouncy songs, you tend to be upbeat.
If you listen to a lot of depressing music that talks about despair, how life is futile, and cutting yourself, you're going to be dark and depressed.
If you listen to enough music that talks about unfairness and how you can't trust cops, you're going to be hostile or antagonistic toward the Law and may try to defy the police re-enacting the music that influenced your thoughts.

Some people use music as a way of NOT taking responsibility for their actions. Pathetic really.
