You can longue your mini to keep him in shape and potentially stop foundering. All you need is a lead approx 10 metres long stand at least 5 metres away and make your mini trot and canter in a circle. You need to be positioned facing his flanks so that your mini will keep up the forward movement so that he will not stop. Best of luck. It does take alot of practice but you will succeed.

I've owned a few miniature horses. How much does your child weigh? I would only recommend a mini for a very light toddler or very small child. A mini can pull a ton of weight in a cart , but riding is a different story.

He's stubborn- your point? If he needs excercise, it's your responsibility to make sure he stays healthy.

Do the lunging thing to keep his respect. You are the boss, not him. You could set up trot poles and small jumps to make it interesting, take him to the beach or a river, or for walks in the bush/forrest. Try and keep lunging sessions short, so he doesn't get bored, and make sure that you aren't doing the same things every day. You could also get a trainer in to show him how to stand for shows, anything that is mentally challenging for him will be a benefit and keep him busy. You could train him to do tricks, natural horsemanship, anything really. Think about the things that people with unbroken or unrideable horses do.

If he has behavioural problems, like not listening to you, that is definately a starting point, he's going to need correcting.

All the best :)

You need to put him in a round yard and lung him. Make sure that his feet are trimmed every 8 weeks to prevent him from foundering. If you feel his corenets and if they are warm to touch you will need to contact the vet. Placing him in a stable are an small area that has little grass is ideal. If you enjoy wlking you could also led him on walks for at least half hour any exercise is better than none.not not feed him any grains you still can give him his supplements in a small amount of molasses.

Do not feed it too much, and if it is stubborn, let it know who's boss. Talk to it it a gentle voice, gently pulling on a rope all the time, say 'walk on, you can do it boy/girl.' Try it and if it's still stubborn, get its favourite snack and put it arm length away from your horse. If you want to try it this way, do it before he eats, that way he'll have a good appetite. If it still does not work, email me and I'll give you more ideas what to do. dayna_sua@yahoo.com.sg

Take him off grass and diet him, or loung him, and if he does do any thing, LIGHTLY use the loung whip on him to keep him away, and force him to loung. Horses need some sort of exercise
