I don't just mean a greetings card. I mean a proper letter sent to someone you care about. I Can't remember the last time I did that.

Today!!!!! Fantastic question. I wrote to my ex, asking him for forgiveness. I left him in South Africa and came to work overseas. He is devastated and I thought of writing the letter rather than sending him an email. It is much more personal and hopefully he will be convinced to join me here.

Depends on what you mean by handwritten. I write a Christmas letter each year, and post it with the greeting cards. I also write infrequent letters on the computer then print and mail them (my handwriting is atrocious).
To actually sit down and write a letter with pen and ink and stick it in the mail - I have not done that in many years. I used to - but that was before easy access to printers. Now even with the typed letter, I can make it individual, add pictures, look up facts etc before printing.
Also - I have only 1 correspondent who does not use the computer. (down from 3 this time last year). Emails are faster, and you usually get the letter back with the reply, so you know what question is being answered. How easy is it to decipher a posted letter which says "sure I will be glad to" and it is from someone you wrote to 6 months ago. Huh what? Maybe what you asked was that they join you for a Christmas gig, and it is now 2 weeks to the date and you have made other plans because of no reply.
(yes telephones work, but how many of you answer every call?)

Do you count business letters, in my line of work I write about 4 or 5 letters a day. But the last person letter I wrote was 2 months ago to my brother in the army

probably about 4 months ago when i sent some recent photo's to my grandma of my baby daughter, i don't think she would be too impressed if i typed it out, she's a little old fashioned like that, she said a letter is more meaningful if its hand written. bless the grandma's out there.

I'm into pen palling via snail mail, I just mailed out 10 letters that I hand wrote (I don't believe in typing them out) yesterday. The only one that I wrote that I knew personally was my SIL.

Ah! with the advent of telephone and electronic mails, it's been quite some years now- say: 3 to 5 years now.

To be honest with you, and it is a shame, the only type of letter i have written is applying for jobs. It is sad, but i think now we go for speed.
