the gameboy advance SP was the last nintendo handheld that was completely backwards compatible, as uparmored ninja pointed out. the SP will play any gb/gbc/gba games.
i highly recommend this system, it is a great game player. also, the gameboy player that fits on the gamecube will also play any gb/gbc/gba games
several people said the DS can as well, but those people are wrong. the DS can only play GBA games, which fit perfectly in the regular DS, but stick out of the DS Lite

Yeah the DS does as well. It will stick out and feel weird but your hands wont be in the way.
So yeah have at it man. Play tetris till your battery dies! (I love tetris).
