i'm sure this is not too helpful, but I've feel a generous mix of nature and nuture develops most human behavior.
in ones work ethic i think you have a predisposed level and then through life and your family and environment this is increased or decreased.
i've seen people able to spend hours upon hours on a task not have a responsible job/profession because they were coddled and given everything.
and ive seen peopel that have grown up hard , were taught that you need to work hard, and will put in a good days work but might not get anything else done cuz in reality their a bit lazy

The way you're brought up. Genes are just a lazy excuse.

Hard working and motivated is entirely by the way we are brought up. Creative skills is to certain extent by genes, but can be acquired with extra efforts.

I had a choice between a college degree and full-time work together or else, the military. Laziness means Yahoo answers, the occasional collection of poetry and painting. I like laziness, should bike more but I am tired.

It's determined by the way you have been brought up and the general attitude you have. I personally have become very lazy in my old age ;)

Bit of both and some of neither!!
your genes are governed by your karma -- they're a reflection of who you already are when you arrive in a lifetime. But you also have free will and you can choose to make your future. You can overcome your upbringing, especially if you find love and wisdom.

I agree with _it'scold12. It's just like saying that you can't get a job because no ones called you yet. Lazy is a learned behavior not genetic.

It can also be determined by outside factors such as your work environment, the attitudes of people around you, your work field, etc. You wouldn't want to work around a bunch of conspiring bitches in the office, trust me.

I'm not really sure. It seems like I and my husband are more motivated than our daughter is about when to do things. She has gotten better since she became an adult but not like we were at her age.
