Don't use sevin. Get some Drax gel and place it on the path of the ants. Ants such as Pharaoh ants can detect pesticides such as sevin and they will then bud, that is move out of their present hive into areas undisturbed by the sevin. As the mother hive will have many queens each hive will be self supporting and therefore you will only be multiplying you problem. Other ants will simply hide until the danger is reduced, sevin in mixture having a residual effect of about a month. Drax or other bait gels have a borate base within a honey or grease mix and therefore will not frighten the ants but they will take it back to the hive to serve as food and in that way will kill the hive.
What type of sevin do you have? If it is Sevin 5 this ia a powder that is to be spread over the affected plants or about the plants when a dry spell is expected. Don't breath it,wear long sleeve and long pants, rubber gloves. Wash you hands and face well before perfoming any bodily function and make sure that no Sevin 5 gets into the water system. Or put it away until the fireants arrive and get some gel bait.

My father in law always uses sevin and all I ever see him do is put it in a coffe can with several holes in the lid and sprinkle it on like baby powder. Looks as if they are covered with a light dusting of snow. It seems to work for him.

just dust with sevin -- no mixing required

Gritts din't work on fire ants in South Carolina, the little biters kept asking for gravy and jam to go with the gritts.

"reynwater", told you true.
You have the "Dust also known as the Powder".
You just shake it directly onto your vines, that is it.
Now if you had bought the liquid, then you would have to mix it with water.
