Vitamin C enhances iron absorption from plant sources -- drink orange juice with iron-rich foods.

OMG is everyone serious? the baby is 7 months old. Barely eatting baby foods. and u want to give her liver? and all that other crap? It will most likely make the baby constipated. then u have to post questions like why is my baby constipated, or something. If administrated wrong as in leavin it where she can get at it? keep it away from her, and dont over dose her, remember how much u gave her. Iron isnt medicated, if the doctor says she needs anti-biotics then u should be worried but iron is natural. Breast feeding is best cause u cant overdose even if u take iron pills. If your really worried you should be taking advice from your dr, rather than a bunch of strangers on yahoo on an issue like this.

Spinach is very high in iron. Most formulas have iron as well. Once my daughter was on solids I simply processed whatever myself and her father had to eat and fed it to her, never did have a problem with iron.
Yes, most medicines can be very harmful, even deadly if instructions are not followed, Tylenol can harm the liver, ibuprofen can cause stomach ulcers, if one is allergic to a type of food such as peanuts they die if they ingest even a teaspoon of peanut butter.
So are you going to find a cave somewhere and hope that anything that can harm you won't find you?
The doctor knows what he/she is doing and if you follow the doctor's instructions you will have no problems. You, yourself said it...they can be fatal IF administered improperly...I think a doctor would know better than you how to administer medication properly...or do you have years of college and a few degrees as well?

Well I just took my Daughter to her WIC appointment last week -she will be 8mos soon & when they did her Hemoglobbin Test -her IRON was low too -I asked why & they said some babies Iron is low because they have not been introduced to Meat yet -even though you are told not to until 8 months- Some babies clearly need it before
They told me Medication was dangerous & uneccessary- & to just feed her Meat - especially RED meat
The lady said to give her all kinds of meats but to Puree it in a blender or cut into tiny peices & mush it up with her babyfood
or with Veggies
Here is a list of meats they said she could eat
Beef
Lamb
Chicken
Tunafish (no more than once a week)
Pork
If your gonna try meats - do one at a time for a few days -to be sure of no problems/ food allergies -but I've never heard of anyone allergic to meat -LOL You may want ot ask your Dr. for permission first
The meat cannot be seasoned or spiced -So I just tear her a small peice off before we had our seasonings & I have been grilling hers seperate on my George Forman Grill -to save time -then & pop it in the blender - My daughter doesn't have teeth yet but can chew with her gums -so I leave it a little Chunky but still soft enough to swallow with no problems -mixing it with veggies like carrots, corn or peas -makes it tastier to her -but she's been on meats for a week & absolutley LOVES it
We ate out at tonight & I ordered Baked Chicken -I gave her the inside peices -that weren't seasoned -she loved it
She has to go back in 2 months to get her Iron Checked agian -I am more than certain it will be normal by then
** Note cupidgirl -listed alot of foods you CANNOT give to a baby !!!!! Like Clams, Oysters !! & Malasses,Poptarts,NO Fried Foods !! Like the Beef Liver-fried and Eggs !!!! - These can all cause MAJOR food ALLERGIES -I'm sure form the looks of it -she didn't know

Go on line and research they types of foods that are high in iron, but be careful not to assume that your child is getting the iron that she needs, just because she is getting high iron foods. Have the doctor regularly check her blood count. Anemia can be very dangerous, and babies oftentimes are low in iron, because of the kind of food they are able to eat...they have no or little teeth. Also, talk with the pharmacist. He or she may have some excellent suggestions.

Well, iron deficiency? Em.., if it is, u shud avoid yer baby from drinkin tea, haha.. N avoid brown rice n wheat bran, where it cud reduce the iron absorbed in the body, eventho shes consuming a lota iron.. On top of that, replace sum of the milk-based diets, where they contain low in iron.. replace them wit meet n poultry. Basically, animal sources of iron can absorb into the body more easily than veges.. N.., So, she shud consume more meet n fishes, n the richest source of iron is liver..

You still having her drink baby formula that is iron fortified? That should be helping.
As for actual foods:
The following foods are relatively high in iron: red meat, chicken, pork, fortified breakfast cereal, bran, pumpkin seeds, blackstrap molasses, soybean nuts, spinach, red kidney beans, lima beans, prune juice, pretzels, rice, raisins, and prunes.
