In the UK a Canal Boat is just that, but some refer to it as "Canal Narrowboat".
In the USA it is a: *Canoe, or a *Kayak
In Italy a Canal Boat is:
*Gondola, and a *Barca da canali= Long Narrow Boat.
In Portuguese = Bote, Estreito

I have heard canal boat cruising,canal boating and sailing. I don;t know what the ansers with caoe and kayak are doing in your answers, they obviously are not familar with canal boats or kayaks and canoes.

Well the boats are called barges and the correct term is barging i believe but i don't think it is commonly used.
