We sleep at an average of 8 hours a day which is 1/3 of 24. Assume that rather than 24 hours, there'd be 50 hours a day... So 350 hours a week. Would we still sleep at 8 hours a day if there are still 42 hours left for everything else, in a day? Try to imagine all possible effects... before you'd like to answer the question.

Haha!! Try to think about it, if it would still be 1/3 of the day, then the change of longer day doesn't makes sense at all. It's just the same with 8 hours per 24 a day. Try to be logical enough... This is philosophy...

This question is putting the cart before the horse.

Should the day be 50 hours in length, then the human body, along with the rest of the animal kingdom, would have evolved to adapt itself to such.

Of course, should there have been a fifty hour day, who knows how evolution could have been affected, or even if the planet itself would have been able to develop life.

That's about six questions right there!

the time of sleep should also change! i love sleeping so i'd rather have 1/2 of the day sleeping. meaning if we have 50 hours a day, i want to have 25 hours of sleeping. we'll have another 25 hours to stay awake and do a lot of stuff. 25 is greater than 24. one thing more, we should have a lot of time to sleep to gain a lot of strength, to accomplish a lot of things for the day ahead. it will be a very cheerful day after a very long sleep!

Quite possible. Our need for sleep is not entirely dependent on our activity levels during the day. Evolution baked the sleeping habit into all of us, and it's the reason why people w/ sleep disorder can still function for the most part. So assuming that the length of day and night are lengthened proportionally, I suspect we would all sleep a lot longer.

The length of the day makes no difference. They still sleep an average of 8 hours in Alaska, land of the midnight sun.
