There is a very interesting little booklet you can buy called "Marriage". It explains exactly what marriage is and how to create a marriage, continue a marriage, what destroys marriage, how to repair marriage and other very relavent data. It is available in any Church of Scientology bookstore for about five bucks. You don't have to join the church to buy it. You can just walk in, ask for the bookstore officer and have them get you the marriage booklet. Anyone getting married or thinking of it should read that booklet.
Also, there is another little book. I don't remember the author, but it's a woman, and you could probably get it online or at Barnes and Noble. It's called, "The Hard Questions". It addresses the questions you should ask yourself and your partner before getting married. It covers money, religion and other topics that could cause trouble in a marriage. I hope this information helps you.

Marriage is a huge commitment that only people mature enough to handle should go through with. It is two people building a relationship to last a lifetime. Marriage isn't always perfect...there are bound to be some ups and downs, but you work together to make it through them. It's a sign of how much you love the other person, wanting to spend the rest of you life making them happy and being by their side through the good and bad. It is sharing your hopes and dreams and working together to make them happen. There are so many definitions that could be used to describe marriage, but these are the ones that seem most important to me.

A marriage is a relationship between or among individuals, usually recognized by civil authority and/or bound by the religious beliefs of the participants. The fact that marriage often has the dual nature of a binding legal contract plus a moral promise, can make it difficult to characterize.
In one form or another, marriage is found in virtually every society. The very oldest records that refer to it speak of it as an established custom. Despite attempts by anthropologists to trace its origin (and test the hypothesis of primitive promiscuity), evidence is lacking.
In Western societies, marriage has traditionally been understood as a monogamous union, while in other parts of the world polygamy has been a common form of marriage. Usually this has taken the form of polygyny (a man having several wives) but a very few societies have permitted polyandry (a woman having several husbands).

My favorite definition is: a blending or matching of different elements or components.
The legal and often religious, promise or vow that two (or more) people give each other, that they will try to live and support the other in this new partnership arrangement.
Companies, people, furniture, etc. can all be married together.
The conscience arrangement of two things in a (hopefully) stronger bonded arrangement.
