I’m a little confused about what happens here. How did Harry be in two places at once before he used the time-turner ? Was is something metaphorical ?

When Harry, trying to rescue Sirius attempts to ward off the dementors with a patronus, he well... fails quite miserably. As he is loosing consciousness he sees, across the lake a blinding white light and someone, whom he thinks is his father.

Now, when they all awake in the hospital wing, Dumbledore (after having told everyone to give them a moments privacy) urges Hermione to use her time turner and go with Harry back in time to save both sirius and buckbeak.

Here's the clue you missed...

when Harry and Hermione are sitting waiting for rescue Buckbeak, he suggests they run into Hagrid's cottage and capture peter pettigrew. Hermione quickly tells him that there is a reason wizards aren't allowed to meddle with time. loads of them have killed their future or past selves once they see each other.

So yes, when time traveling you can really be in two places at once.

The reason harry, obviously, didn't;t kill himself or think dark magic was going on was b/c he thought it was his dad.

He also conjured the patronus b/c he already knew he could do it.

Oh and .. harry didn't think it was his dad b/c his patronus was a stag.

It only dawned on harry that James' animagi was a stag after Lupin told him and then he realized why his patronus is a stag. I don't think we know what James' patronous was. Not yet anyways..

He thought it was his father b/c harry and his dad look sooo much alike.

Hermoine had a time tuner I believe for her studies. dumbldore instructed her and Harry to go back 3 hours to the point of when Buckbeek was to be executed, save the animal and save serious black. Near the end of the book, Serious and Harry were battleing the dementors, and when all else failed and just as the dementors were about to give serious the kiss of death (I think thats what its called) that's when Harry saw something from across the lake. A patrounous being used...
To make a long story short Harry thought it was his father because his fathers patrounous was a stag, but it was actually Harry's... travelling back into time with Hermoine.

Well, let's recall back at the incident. We all know Harry came to find Sirius Black has been surrounded by the soul sucking dementors, which will made him lose consciousness and hallucination. Before he passed out he saw his father, which is him because he resembles alike his father as Professor Dumbledore, Sirius Black, and Lupin said so. Harry don't have a chance to think further much about it because he passed out and concentrate to rescue Sirius until he realized himself saved them, not his father.

he saw his future self in the present.
in the future he saw his self lying hopelessly on the ground.
so he cast a patronus to save himself.
before he used the time turner he saw his future self which had already used the time turner.
thats how he can be at two places at once.
it could not happen in the future if it did not happen at the past. got it?

a action picture is rarely identically the comparable because of the fact the e book it replaced into in step with. It is analogous, yet because of the fact the others mentioned dissimilar it replaced into cut back out or altered in some way. I even have examine all the Harry Potter books, and that i strongly advise which you examine it. desire that enables!

I think he saw his future self who had traveled back in time. In other words his present self saw his future self. It's been a while since I read this one but I think I got it right.
