I agree with the previous poster. The only way for you to decide this is to research what it's like to own rabbits. You should start off at the House Rabbit Society's website. They have a ton of great information for a person who's thinking about getting a rabbit. From what they need for food, to how to litterbox train them step-by-step, to what they need for toys (yes, rabbits need toys too!). I would start there and then talk to some people that you know who own rabbits (if you have any friends with bunnies go over to their house for a while and see what the little guys are like...also, you can watch them in the petstore to see how they spend their days). The website for the House Rabbit Society is: www.rabbit.org. Start there, and if you have any other questions don't hesitate to e-mail me directly at: kbviolin_98@yahoo.com

Rabbits make really sweet pets but I would personally get a fully grown rabbit so that you already know its personality and you can choose one that is already litter trained. Some can be very timid and therefore not much fun. they tend not to smell, can be housebroken and live out of a cage (you might consider puttign the rabbit in a large cage if you are out of the house for several hours y to avoid it chewing on books electrical outlets table legs etc.) If you are interested look up the house rabbit society they can give you advice and direct you to a rabbit if you are still interested.

Do rabbits make good pets? NO
Do they have bad odors? YES
I've tried them several times. I've never been able to get one to use the litterbox as some people claim. They breed early and often. The males get just as hormonally affected as tomcats sometimes. And, I believe a 5 pound rabbit can produce 3 times it's weight in little "bunny berries" daily.
So, will that be one bunny or 26? ;-)

I wasn't overly impressed with my rabbit as a pet. She let me hold her and pet her, but not a lot. I would pick her up and she would do that "thumping" thing rabbits do, and scratch me. I love critters, but I would not have another rabbit. I couldn't say that my rabbit had bad odors. She seemed to smell okay to me.

I like rabbits very much. They should be indoor pets as there are many problems they face outside. I suggest you read the book the House Rabbit Handbook and go to these websites.

There's just not that much interaction with a rabbit, so they're only so-so as pets. There's no odor to the bunny itself, but they do crap a lot.

I have known several people to have their rabbits attack them. I even had my own attack me several times, before I sent it to a rabbit farm. They aren't always the cute little things they appear to be lol. They also poop a lot, and if you've never been around a farm, the smell will knock your socks off.

Don't smell too bad, not worse than any other caged animal I guess but definitely better than ferrets lol. But I change/dump his litterbox every day or two, and change the liner under the cage every few days. Otherwise, yeah they'll stink. Big thing with them, you need to handle/play with them a lot. Otherwise, you can't hold them-they'll kick and just be unhappy. Unfortunately I'm allergic to mine, and I start sneezing uncontrollably when I play with him to long, but my daughter plays with him a lot. Make sure you get them fixed too, not sure about females, but with my male he calmed down a lot after that.

They make good pets, but better as caged pets (indoor or outdoor) because if not watched carefully they can hurt themselves and damage your belongings. They like to chew through electrical cords. They are only smelly if you don't take care of them.
