Anyone know about this? I recently went to a local Walmart and was told that they didn't have layaway anymore! Then I read a newspaper article a couple of weeks ago that the company is thinking about doing away with layaway! Anyone in here work with Walmart that might know something about it? I'm from south Texas.

News release on Thursday stated Wal Mart is doing away with layaway after this holiday season. The company said this is to better serve their customers, but, that sounds like bull to me.

i think they are doing this because they want more people to get the walmart credit card.. that way they get intrest and finance charges out of u too.. with lay away they do not benefit really, because u are not charged any xtra to la away. i better go put my sons xmas stuff on layaway tommorrow..

I hadn't heard that yet... Guess that I need to watch the news.

i would figure that they would make more money if people put in a down payment, then not come back to pay the rest... I mean, that is what tote-the-note car lots do... take the down payment, then repo the car 2 mos later after no other payments have been made.

Unless the warehouse space is that valuable that it is more cost effective to not allow people to use it for free.

I do not know, but that 22% rate on their charge card is way more than this individual on fixed income can readily afford.
