The geforce 7950 isnt the most expensive! You can spend up to 5000 bucks on a video card! I have used nvidea and ATI cards and they both have some good features but nvidea cards always seem to be darker and dont compare with ATI in that area.

It depends on ur purpose
for gaming
the 7950 GX2 is a good choice
but right now, i prefer the 7900 GTX 512mb
wait for the Quad SLI technology to get better
if you are into Video editing, the 7950 GX2 will be like an Intel graphics processor (trash).
get the Geforce Quadro FX4500 for PCI x16
thats the best of the best
oh yea, and theres this new thing that is just about to come out
the Quadro Plex
check it out on www.nvidia.com

Expensive doesn't necessarily mean best. If depends what your using it for, 2D/3D gaming, home entertainment or you want it for photoshop or illustration art? I would suggest the following criteria:
Memory - at least 256
Memory bandwith - the more the merrier (its more important than memory itself)
DVI - Digital input
Make sure you see this as a guideline (XT OR XT PE) means top of the line.
Make sure you have the latest "direct x" look it up if you have no idea. very important. This helps your graphics performance.
Make sure that you have at least 480W of power supply. If you have the high end graphics card make sure you keep em cool. They will draw a lot of power and heat. ( you probably already know this but just in case)
As you can see money have little to do on how good your graphics card will perform....enjoy.

GeForce is generally better in 'comperable' cards, but Radeon has stepped up frame rates lately so it is anyone field... have to compare the actual specs on the cards to see which of any two are better now.

If you've got an SLI mainboard, a pair of 256mb 7800 GTs doesn't go far wrong. When buying nVidia, though, make sure you get a GT or GTX card - the others risk being cheap and nasty.

Decide what your needs are - at LEAST 256Mb.
Pick a budget you can afford - no point in putting a £1000 card in a £200 machine.........
Then visit Ebuyer (NOT Ebay)
