We used to have a hedgehog that lived in our shed after giving birth. Once the little hoglets were old enough to go out walking they used to parade down the garden path after mama, very cute sight to see.

This isn't a story of the "Once upon a time" variety but I'd like to share the information anyway : In rural Lincolnshire there's an establishment called Hogsfam. It is run by an amazing person called Elaine who cares for injured hedgehogs who are brought to her from miles around. Her Hogsfam shop is designed to raise funds for the hedgehogs' keep. Although she has a daughter who is/was in a group called Swingout Sister Elaine subsists on a very low budget with no outside funding. I have never met anyone like her and wish more people could support her work. When we took her the first injured hedgehog we'd found the poor mite died in her care and she sent us the most moving little poem entitled, if I remember, "Goodnight Hedgehog". She never gives up. My abiding visual memory is of her lovingly removing maggots from a tiny injured hedgehog. some woman - some hedgehog story. PS. I nearly forgot! The best hedgehog story (designed for reading) I have ever read is "The hodgeheg" by Dick King-Smith - a really enchanting story about a hedgehog who is injured in a minor accident, is left with garbled speech for a while, but ends up victorious. Ciao. Love your art work and general philosophy. PS. Have just looked more carefully at your 360 stuff. Forgive me for saying this if you knew all along...cows' milk gives hedgehogs really upset tummies. I don't know about other milks like the special milk you can gives to cats though, interestingly, the best food to put out for hedgehogs, I've been told, is meaty (not fishy) cat food and I think there's a hedgehog food on the market called "Spike". My husband is about to do some work on hedgehogs with his pupils at a referral unit for disaffected children - will pass on stories if you want.

I work at a pet shop and we ordered a hedgehog, came in perfectly healthy and happy, sold him right away, so we ordered another one. This time we ended up with an albino, but he was RIGHT at the weaning weight, and was vey weak and hypothermic from the move, and I suspect they sent him before he was even completely weaned (grrrr...), and we ended up having to bottlefeed him puppy milk and mushed up hedgehog food. He ate it readily, but it took up all his energy. He was the ugliest little thing and would attack the bottle then wear himself out and fall asleep in my hand. It took a while to nurse him back to health, but now he's fat and spunky. For some reason he hasn't sold yet, and I don't know what we'll do when he goes, because he's basically a store pet, and spoiled rotten. He's absolutely adorable and I'd buy him in a second if I had the $$ and room to properly care for one...

The way to spring, a short fable about jozhik (Russian for hedgehog) and Loshadka (Russian for horse), written by... eerrrrrrr, me actually ;-)

Excerpt:

Loshadka and Jozhik were walking through a forest. It was winter, and the snow lay thick on the ground. So thick, that Jozhik couldn't see where he was going. But Loshadka guided him safely through the forest. It was a long journey, they would reach the end of the forest in spring.
Loshadka was helping Jozhik on his back, because the snow was getting thicker and thicker. It actually seemed like spring was getting further and further away. But suddenly Jozhik, sitting high on Loshadka, saw something that made him believe they were getting closer to spring: a small yellow flower.

No, I don't,but with the wonderful way you have with words(I love your blogs) and your wonderful, colorful, whimsical painting style,I think that YOU should write and illustrate a children's book about-what else?Hedgehogs. It's so funny that you asked this question because I was just telling a friend about you and your 360 page and I said that I thought that Olls should write a kids book about hedgehogs!

There was the one that crossed the road to see his flat mate.

I would tell you about the hedgehog with alopecia, but it is pointless.
