I'm getting a 2nd degree in graphic design, after wasting the first one away in finance. This second go around in school is proving to me that art students hate sports for some unknown reason. WHY?

I've never been an art student, but I've always hated sports.

I have thought about this before.

People that play sports pay attention to numbers, positions, patterns, etc,... That's if they have the mental capacity to analyze or retain the information. Otherwise, they only have the ability to participate.

Those with truly creative minds have trouble with simple logic. Artists and intellectuals can't "think quick", which you need to do if you're going to catch a ball. The facts and figures are not interesting, either.

Well, to be fair, a lot of art students went to high schools where funding the football team was the #1 priority and funding the art department was somewhere behind things like band (provides the music for the football team) and shop class (provides an easy A for football players, keeping them eligible to play).

Hey,
I'm a graphic designer and I never liked sports (at school). But I never put a link between those two...
Good to know! ;-)

But I think it's not true: you just have to find the right sport for you... at school we only did things I didn't like, now I'm doing sports I like, and enjoy them...

Because it's very difficult to play football with a brush in your hand, the paint gets everywhere.

No, seriously - Generally people who lean towards the Arts and Humanities are less competitively-minded than those who lean towards Sports. It must be one of those left-brain, right-brain situations.

well, I'm telling you that's not true at all... even when I used to be an art student myself and hated sports. But my classmates played soccer everywere, there are broken windows cause if that. I even remember to play soccer in our classroom often. And baseball... and I'm not kidding

it's just not in their character, i had twin sons, exact opposites...one is a jock n one is an artist...it just doesn't interest them...to a jock it's all about doing and acting out and being physical...to an artist it's all about the mind and the eye and expressing themselves that way...a mom's opinion
