Do whatever you feel would be best for you and your kids. If the benefits of the new job outweigh the increased stress and $3,000/year paycut, then go for it... especially if there's opportunity for upward mobility and career advancement (I don't know if that is what you meant by getting a "chance to grow".)

I can fully understand why some people have suggested that you stick with your current job. Their reasons are valid... but don't be afraid to take a chance once in a while.

If I'm understanding this right, you're asking if you should leave your laid back job for a job that pays less and is not so laid back. If thats the case I think without a doubt you should keep your current job. I have a laid back job and don't think I could stand anything else.

Follow your gut feel, you seem to be in doubt so I would suggest not leave your present job as yet. You'll regret getting a pay cut. Just keep applying and wait for the right job, with the right kind of feel.

You must make a comparison between your current job with your job offer not only its salary such as
1)total assets and its net worth
2)how long it has been founded
3)total employee
4)its benefit or employee compensation scheme
5)its growth per year
6)its culture and business ethics
7)its working climate
8)chance for developing your career
9)its working hour and an opportunity for having overtime wages
10)other aspect.

If you are comfortable in the current job it will be stupidity to accept a new job as there you will need to prove yourself again and as you said will not be laid back job. I suggest you carry on with the present job.

Work on Saturdays?!?!?! You couldn't pay me enough!! I like to keep my life simple .. monday to friday .. unless I become the Prime Minister or the Queen, then I will gladly work Saturday.

Good Luck with your choice!
