He pulled over and contacted an older female friend who arrived at the scene to aid him. While the female friend was sitting in her car at the scene she was approached and threatened by a white male who said something to the effect of , "Get out of the car or else." As the woman sped off she saw Ennis' body lying on the pavement, shot in the head. The killer, Mikhail Markhasev was an 18 year old from the Ukraine. Allegedly Markhasev was trying to rob Ennis and, like an animal, killed Ennis for no apparent reason. The attack may have been racially motivated since evidence showed that Markhasev kicked Ennis in the face post death.
