Reality check people.
X and Y chromosomes determine your gender.
Defying and rejecting your predetermined gender over your psycho-sexual preference is choice. Not a normal acceptable choice to the rest of the world but still a choice.
But, why do I waste time? Gays and lesbians hate this answer because it's true.

Don't you just love how the straight people answer this question. Just how is it they would know? Yes there are a few who make it a choice but the vast majority of us were born "gay". By the way I've seen some pretty crooked pine trees. LOL

Not only can someone be born gay, that is the only way to be gay. Sexual orientation is not a choice. Lifestyle is a choice. There are probably many homosexuals living the life of a heterosexual, but that does not make them heterosexual. That just makes them a homosexual leading a heterosexual lifestyle.
By the way sam_g, not all pine trees are straight...

I was definitely born gay. I had a crush on a guy in kindergarten, long before I knew anything about sex at all. This means I have always been emotionally wired toward intimate relationships, including sex, with other men. What is the big deal, anyway? This question must be hashed over at least a hundred times a week on here. I answer just in case someone is open-minded enough to listen!

wow, so many "absolute truths" placed forth from opinions.
here's a stellar concept, maybe there isn't just one answer to this question!
What if some people are born a certain sexual orientation, and others aren't. And still others are born with a sexual orientation that is fluid?
*chuckles* and then the million dollar question: is sexual orientation linear? meaning like, in a straight line? is there only a scale of hetero to homo and everything in between?
Well, what is heterosexual? is it also heterogender? and the same for the other mainstream sexual orientations?
So, if there are only two genders and two sexes and everyone falls between it. yay! simple simple.
too bad their aren't. What if a person is born intersex (having anatomical and/or sex chromosomes different from male or female) and identifies as nongendered... Or a person of any sex really, who identifies as nongendered, what would their sexual orientation be?
there are over 30 sexes
and many more than 2 genders (and there are nongenders)
So, is all this hetro, homo, boy, girl, other-- really all that relevant to existance?
i mean, i can tell you something i know for certain: i was born a human ^_~ ...and people are starving to death in this world and the most relevant debates in the US today are war, and sexual orientation..

Born gay, no choice, same as with you. Seems to me that only homophobics, religious extremists, and maybe some closeted bi-sexual and gay people claim it's a choice. Never met a gay person who believed they made a decision about it, just like I never met a straight person who thought they did either.
PS - popmool has no idea what he/she is talking about regarding sexual abuse or abuse in general.
Also, many psuedo-science religious organizations are putting a lot of garbage on the net that doesn't stand up to the scientific community's scrutiny. If it did, they'd publish in respected scientific journals instead of creating websites.

Myth #4: Homosexuality is a choice. It has been established for some time that one's sexual orientation is part of the basic personality structure and formed before the age of two. The most recent studies, however, both behavioral and biological, indicate one's sexual orientation is genetic—something determined at conception. Whether it happens before birth or it happens by age two, the determination of sexual orientation can hardly be considered a choice. One can, of course, choose not to follow one's natural orientation, but this is not the sort of choice the proponents of this myth mean. They mean that gay people choose to be gay in the same way that they might sit down and choose which program to watch on television, which team to bet on in the Super Bowl, or whether or not they want pepperoni on their pizza.
The idea behind this myth is: a perfectly normal, well-adjusted heterosexual is sitting around one day and just decides to go gay, as one might decide to move to Antarctica or try to flush hockey pucks down the toilet. It is truly aberrant behavior, but it is his or her choice. Implied in this choice, of course, is a certain hostility to God, parents, society, and the American way. It's as though being gay is a pathological act of rebellion.
Gays don't choose to be gay; they discover they're gay. Like heterosexuals, they find themselves increasingly attracted (romantically as well as sexually) to a particular gender. The bisexuals find themselves attracted to both. (Even though, as Woody Allen says, "Bisexuality immediately doubles your chances for a date on Saturday night," discovering one's bisexuality must be more confusing than discovering one is primarily gay or straight.)
Unless someone is actually asking you to be gay why is this bothering you enough to post this question ....you wanna try babe ?....lol

Well... It happened to me. I'm gay! being gay isn't a choice when I know for some it is very HARD to come to terms and accept the fact that we're gay. Some of US have asked GOD for change, he didn't change us when we asked him too and therefore he didn't make a mistake in making us. I wouldn't have choose being gay knowing it would cause me ridicule in my life. Now I did make the choice to be true to thyself openly, a Gay man. that's what I am.

We choose our actions, but we don't choose our feelings. We can repress them, bury them, hide them, or whatever, but they don't go away. As many other people have written on here, why would a gay person choose a life of ridicule, hatred, fear, possible loss of family, and all the other things that come along with being gay. Would you? When it comes down to it, you can choose to sleep with the opposite sex, but you can't choose to like it. When you live you life in truth to who and what you are, you have relationships with the people that you want to, not who society wants you to.

Being gay can be a difficult life... why would anyone choose a difficult life? of course it's not a choice. Gay people are great. But, a lot of straight people seem to think they are unnatural. Why??? there is nothing wrong with gays. It's just who we are.
