Cold turkey. It's a matter of will. Takes three days for the worst of it. You never really completely let it go. Try nicotine patches and gums during the first three days. Sleep as much as you can those first three days. Don't go out. Watch TV and munch on snacks. Exercise everytime you think you cannot keep going without a cigarette. Drinks lots of water. Take hot showers. Brush your teeth and tongue three times a day to eliminate the old nicotine taste. Clean the house of soot and ashes and dirty ashtrays. Count the hours, not the days, from the moment you have your last cigarette. Call people up and tell them that you have quit. Ask them to call back every day and give encouragement. (That really improves success.) Figure out how much you spent a day on cigarettes. Put that much cash into a jar every day. Never stop. That turns the bad memory of the habit into something positive. Have literature on hand to read about quitting smoking. Get a smoke-cessation video (some come with nicotine patch kits) and watch it in those hard first three days.
