FCC ordered its staff to destroy all copies of a draft study that suggested greater concentration of media ownership would hurt local TV news coverage, a former lawyer at the agency says.

The report, written in 2004, came to light during the Senate confirmation hearing for FCC Chairman Kevin Martin.

As someone in the industry, I give it a solid C. And getting worse. Too many opinion/commentary programs now filling up the 'news' time slots. Too many folks don't know the difference.

Great big F for a grade here.

I think that the news is so worried about getting the largest share of viewers, that they will go to lenghts that they should not to get the viewers. I don't watch the news anymore, the stories are to sensationalized like they are having to be hyped up to make them seem worse or more interesting to people.

Generally, about a D. There are alternatives, like the BBC, and on-line stuff like Democracy Now!, which has video, so it's kind of broadcast.

Oh, and cruisinthru, come on! Rush Limbaugh?? That tub o crap isn't news, unless he's in trouble with the law.

the quality of news on cbs,abc, and nbc is about as bad as it can get. i have not watched those three in about ten years. fox and cnn are far superior.
