Each of the earth's 6.5 billion people can fit in Texas and have an 1,122 sq feet per head. So a family of 4 can have a 4,500 square foot place. Since this is true, the rest of the earth's surface can be easily exploited to feed up. So what's the big deal?

Here's the math:

TX square miles of land = 261,797 from http://www.texasalmanac.com/environment/

Sq Feet in a square mile = 27,878,400 (5280*5280)

In total that is 7,298,481,484,800 square feet

divided into 6.5 billion = 1,122.84 square feet per person on earth.

The math works ... we can all live comfortably in Texas ... so what's this crap about environmental overload?

Food grows everywhere that is not Texas. Trash goes to a dump in Myanmar like it does now.

I'm sure your math is fine but your space is located in the middle of the Red River. Environmental overload is the same crap they feed you on global warming, oil reserves and ozone layers. Someone is making big bucks with the shouting and they shout loudly so you don't look too close.

The problem with overpopulation doesn't have to do with space. It's the polution that all these people create and all the resources they use.

True, much of the discussion about overpopulation is crap. If we all conserved, then the world could sustain many more people.

In addition, as countries develop, their rates of population growth decrease and some even see a population decline. If not for immigration, the population of the US would be relatively stable.

P.S. Does it have to be Texas? can we all settle some place a little nicer?

I agree with sarah. It's not that there isn't space, there arent resources. The idea that you took the time to figure it out though... wow. Who WANTS to overpopulate the earth?
All thru history, there are plagues, and many other types of diseases and whatnot that kept population growth somewhat in check, but with modern medicine, not even a disease as serious as AIDS is able to keep the population at a norm.
If people don't start planning for a tommorrow, there simply won't be one.
And I mean more than planning the square footage.

Because we're using up all the natural resources too quickly. Why? Because there's too many of us to sustain without using everything up too soon!!

If your claim is true then you would soon have 6.5 billion dead people in Texas.
