Check with your airline. Recent events have changed what you can and can't take on board.
Apart from that, it is Spring, the weather is warming up so bring a swimming costume and your sense of humour.
Hope you have a great time.

That depend on what part of Australia you are going to but a passport is a good thing. No food, plants or some timber products are aloud in Australia. If you are going up to Cairn or Darwin I would also bring something to stop mosquito bitting

You can get pretty much everything you need in Australia, except prescription medicine. If you are on a prescription medicine, you should get it before you leave, and make sure it is in a labeled package, with a letter from your doctor saying what it is, and why you need it.
Also make sure you have a valid visa & passport, or else you'll be turned away at the border.
Other than that, you can buy everything else in Australia.

the obvious have been mentioned. I also presume its not going to be a long stay (as you said 'visiting')
as the cities are multicultural, you should have no problem finding almost anything you need, if by chance you have some specific food /other requirements.
Milk products, leather, medicines, any seeds or foliage are prohibited and will be chucked out/quarantined at customs, which are quite thorough.
for further info, look at these sites
